Things to do in London on 11th May – Public executions were abolished on this day in 1868. They would now take place behind closed doors. If you visit Marble Arch then you can stand on the exact spot where the old gallows used to be (the ‘Tyburn Tree’) – look for a metal plaque on one of the surrounding crossings.
