The Tate Modern is putting on an ambitious exhibition of vintage tech art, bringing together works by international artists who engaged with science and technology to create a dreamscape of installations, machines and movement.

Artists have always been looking for new ways to engage our senses and play with our perceptions, and Electric Dreams will explore some of these early pioneers of automatically-generated works and immersive sensory environments, looking back at how yesterday's artists imagined the visual language of the future.

You'll see psychedelic environments from the 1950s that were built using mathematical principles, and installations from the 1960s that made use of motorised components and new industrial processes. The birth of digital technology in the 1970s and 1980s allowed artists to experiment with machine-made art and early home computers.
