Ryan Calais Cameron's electrifying drama captures the moment a Hollywood legend was about to sign a career-defining contract that could potentially make him a star. It will make all his dreams come true, but is he prepared to put his career before his principles, name names, and sign his life away?

Based on real-life events, and centred around a Black actor's struggle to gain fame in 1950s America, Retrograde tells the story of a young Sidney Poitier during the Golden Age of Hollywood - ten years before he became the first Black man to land the 'Best Actor' Oscar for Lilies Of The Field - and still dreaming of landing his first major movie part.

The story explores the problems of identity, the power of resilience, and the wisdom of integrity during the height of censorship against minorities, and doesn't shy away from the temptations that challenged Sidney's sense of self.
