Lots of people will head straight for the famous Fitzwilliam Museum - Cambridge's equivalent of the British Museum, with its extensive collection of art and antiquities from Egypt and Asia, and its gallery of Impressionist and Renaissance paintings.

Queen's, Corpus Christi & Trinity College

You'll also want to spend some time admiring the architecture of the Cambridge colleges - Peterhouse and Pembrooke are worth a look, and the 550-year-old Queen's College with its timber-framed Tudor buildings inside - but the real highlights are Corpus Christi and Christopher Wren's Trinity College which has Isaac Newton's Principia Mathematica on display in the library.

King's College Chapel

If you only enter one building in Cambridge then make it King’s College Chapel. Started in 1446 during the reign of Henry VI, this gothic masterpiece took over 100 years to build and contains some beautiful stained-glass windows and the world's largest fan vault ceiling.

The Chapel is also home to a famous choir of angelic-looking schoolboys that you might have seen singing Christmas carols at the Royal Albert Hall.

Bridge of Sighs & Mathematical Bridge

And don't forget the picturesque Bridge of Sighs that evokes memories of Venice, and the 300-year-old Mathematical Bridge that lots of people still believe was designed by Isaac Newton.

You might like to try some punting on the River Cam as well - a favourite pasttime of university students.
