Set in Venice during the winter of 1730, the operatic new musical Stiletto explores the story of how thousands of poor boys were regularly castrated and then given the chance to find fame and fortune by singing the female roles at the opera.

Opera singers were the rock stars of their day but very few of the boys made it. Life was cheap in 18th-century Venice and most of them were just swept aside.

Marco is one of those boys who's dreaming of becoming an 18th-century Jagger or Bowie, when he meets the supremely talented Gioia. As the daughter of an African slave she has no chance of fulfilling her dreams, but in an attempt to get her on stage Marco introduces her to his powerful patron - the Contessa Azzurra.

When the evening ends with the discovery of a dead body Gioia is immediately carted off to prison, and Marco must find a way to overcome the morally corrupt authorities to free her.
