The Tony and Grammy Award-winning Broadway musical Hadestown is making its West End debut at the Lyric Theatre.

Combining Greek mythology with a folk and blues-inspired score, the love story of Orpheus and Eurydice is intertwined with that of King Hades and his wife Persephone on a journey to the underworld and back.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, it follows the love affair of talented musician Orpheus and Eurydice, who are busy making plans to leave their bleak homeworld for a better life above-ground. But then the ruler of Hadestown tempts Eurydice with a job offer.
When Eurydice abandons their dreams and accepts the offer Orpheus is devastated, and heads off to rescue her - jeopardising his plans to escape Hadestown.

Record-breaking run on Broadway
The hellraising musical became the longest-running show in New York Theatre Workshop's history, picking up eight Tony Awards including 'Best Musical' and 'Best Original Score', plus a Grammy for 'Best Musical Theatre Album'. It also earned itself an ACCA Award, four Drama Desk Awards, and six Outer Critics Awards.
