Things to do in London on 28 August – The first Ashes match took place on this day in 1882, which we lost by seven runs (nothing has changed!). A newspaper then jokingly created a trophy filled with the ashes of English cricket, which is where the name came from. So why not go on a tour of Lord’s and see the original trophy in the museum?
