Things to do in London on 24 August – Colonel Thomas Blood died on this day in 1680. He was the guy who nearly made away with the Crown Jewels by asking his accomplice to fake a stomach ache and then demanding the guard go and fetch her a drink. If you go and see the Crown Jewels today then it probably won’t be as easy as that!
