Royal gun salutes
Where? Green Park, Hyde Park and on Tower Wharf (by the Tower of London)When? 15th June, 17th July, 9th September, 10th and 14th November 2024 Gun salutes in the Royal parks are fired at 12 noon Gun salutes outside the Tower of London are fired at 1 PM Tickets? Free to watch

15th June - King Charles III's official birthday

12.52 PM - A gun salute will be fired in Green Park to mark the King's official birthday (his real birthday is in November).

The crowds for this one will be absolutely huge because it takes place on the same day as Trooping the Colour - thousands of people will be crowding down the Mall to watch the RAF flyover at Buckingham Palace.

17th July - Queen Camilla's birthday

12 noon - The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery (KTRHA) will be firing a 41-gun salute on the northern edge of Green Park, a short distance from Constitution Hill, to celebrate Queen Camilla's birthday.

Trust us when we say you won't have any trouble finding it because the booming guns can be heard halfway up Piccadilly.

1 PM - The Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) will then perform their own salute at Tower Wharf - that cobbled path between the Tower of London and the river.

9th September - Accession Day

12 noon - The KTRHA will perform a 41-gun salute in Hyde Park to mark the anniversary of King Charles III's accession to the throne on the 8th September 2022. (Salutes are never fired on a Sunday, so the salute will actually take place on the 9th.)

1 PM - An hour later the HAC will use four 25-pounder guns to fire their own salute outside the Tower of London.

10th November - Remembrance Sunday

11 AM and 11.02 AM - Guns will be fired twice on Horse Guards Parade, to signal the beginning and end of the two-minute silence at the Remembrance Day Parade.

14th November - King Charles III's real birthday

12 noon - The KTRHA will fire a 41-gun salute on the northern edge of Green Park to mark King Charles III's birthday.

1 PM - The HAC will then fire their own salute on Tower Wharf - that cobbled river path outside the Tower of London.

The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery (KTRHA)

The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery are always a fine sight in their gold braided jackets and busby hats, pulling their First World War-era field guns into place with 71 horses.

When the command is given each of the guns fire off a blank artillery round at 10-second intervals. White smoke lingers in the air for a total of 41 shots, and then the horses collect the guns and escort them back to barracks.

The Honourable Artillery Company (HAC)

The Honourable Artillery Company are another fine sight, drawing their light artillery guns through the streets of London from Armoury House to Tower Wharf.

They set the guns up on the river and fire off rounds that reverberate off the Tower battlements. When it's all over the Regiment recovers the guns and escorts them back to barracks.

Froglet Where is the best place to watch this event from?

Staff If you can't get there early enough for a spot by the river then it's probably on the Tower Bridge roadway. I don't know if you know that stretch of river by the Tower, but they hold the crowd back before the restaurant on the waterfront (just past the gates, and the Tower of London shop). You can watch it from inside the Tower as well, if you stand up on the curtain wall. But of course you'll have to pay to get inside first.

Froglet Thanks
