Photo: viator.comYeoman Warders have been guarding the Tower of London for over five centuries and legend says that 'Beefeaters' was a derogatory nickname from the days when the King couldn't afford to pay them. As wages he let them eat some meat from the kitchens and the starving locals didn't like that very much, and started hissing "beef eaters!" at them every time they passed by.
