The Courtauld Gallery will be putting on a display that will present a selection of drawings on blue paper, including works by the Renaissance artist Jacopo Tintoretto and the German-born artist Johann Zoffany.

Blue paper first appeared in Italy during the 14th century, and its popularity soon spread across Western Europe thanks to its nuanced mid-tone which allowed artists to create a strong contrast between light and dark.

The display will explore the technical aspects and artistic richness of the use of blue paper.
