Surrey is one of eighteen clubs that play cricket in the Rothesay County Championship. There are 10 teams in Division One, and another 8 in Division Two. Teams get 16 points for a win and 8 points for a draw. Teams can also earn some bonus points during the first 110 overs of their first innings, based on the number of runs scored and wickets taken.

Surrey have won the competition more than any other team except Yorkshire, and their most recent win was in 2024 when they landed the Division One trophy with just one game to go - making them the first team to three-peat since Yorkshire back in 1966–68.
Surrey's big domestic rivalry is with Middlesex, who play their home games at Lord's on the other side of London. If you want to attend a match with the biggest crowd and liveliest atmosphere then try and make it Surrey v Middlesex. (Unfortunately they won't be playing each other this year because Middlesex are in Division Two.) Historicially Surrey have the edge in first class cricket, but if you include One Day and Twenty20 then the two teams are generally well-matched.

The Kia Oval cricket ground
Surrey have been playing cricket at the Oval since 1845. It holds 25,500 people making it the third largest cricket ground in the country, and is overlooked by a huge gasometer that stands less than 50 metres from the stadium wall. The wrought-iron Victorian structure has been out of use since 2014, but has been awarded Grade II listed status to protect it from demolition.
