The Globe Theatre will be putting on a new adaptation of Shakespeare's rarely-performed Troilus And Cressida - a study of celebrity and the role that ego plays in driving war forwards.
In a masterful blend of comedy, tragedy and biting satire, the tale of love and betrayal between the Trojan prince Troilus and Cressida is set against the backdrop of the exhausting Trojan War - a war that ground to a halt long ago.
With the war losing all of its excitement and glamour, the heroes that the Greeks and Trojans once worshipped are no longer living up to their mythic narratives, allowing Shakespeare to explore the cult of celebrity with a cynical take on heroism, honor and human frailty.
With its unique staging and strikingly modern script, the Globe's adaptation brings fresh energy to this age-old drama, inviting us to reconsider the true nature of war, romance and reputation.
Watching a play at the Globe Theatre

The Globe Theatre is a replica of the one that stood in Shakespeare's day and is completely open to the weather. If you buy a cheap ticket then you'll be standing in the 'yard' that surrounds the stage. In Shakespeare's day it would have been filled with wet mud and sawdust, but these days it's solid concrete.
You can also sit on one of the balconies that wrap around the yard. For the best view we recommend going for one on the middle level... but try and avoid the three bays closest to the stage because your view will be obscured by some supporting columns (so don't go in blocks A, B, C, N, P or Q). If you're in the upper level then avoid the first four bays (so don't go in blocks A, B, C, D, M, N, P or Q). And if you're on the lower level avoid the first two bays (A, B, P and Q).
