Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton (The Crown) will be starring alongside her real-life daughter Bessie Carter (Bridgerton), in George Bernard Shaw's once-banned play Mrs Warren's Profession.

Mrs Warren is very much a product of the old patriarchal order, and exploiting her position earned her a fortune that paid for her daughter's expensive education.

But in an age ruled by men, Vivie has grown up a fiercely independent woman who loves nothing more than a glass of whisky and a good detective story.

Determined to carve out a legal career without the help of her mother's money, Vivie is totally unaware of her scandalous secret - that she built her fortune by running a chain of brothels. When her buried past finally comes to light it sparks an emotional conflict that questions the price of success.

George Bernard Shaw's moral family drama was a sharp commentary on women's rights and society's moral ambiguity, and this West End revival brings it crashing into the 21st-century.
