Following its sold-out run at the Almeida Theatre, Eline Arbo’s adaptation of Nobel Prize winner Annie Ernaux's masterpiece The Years is coming to the West End for a strictly-limited 12-week run.

Ernaux's memoir shone a light on French society from just after World War II to the early 2000s, by focusing on one woman's memories and impressions of the past and present in a rapidly-changing world.

Her camera shutter clicked on a child playing in the debris of the Second World War... a student discovering parties and men’s bodies... a wife picking out a velvet sofa and taking her eldest to judo... click click click. A lover seducing a younger man... click. And a grandmother presenting her granddaughter to the camera... click.

"Memory never stops. It pairs the dead with the living, real with imaginary beings, dreams with history.;

What the theatre critics say...

The Guardian: ★★★★★ "A masterpiece. Extraordinarily profound and yet playful drama"; The Independent: ★★★★★ "A unique, profoundly moving experience. It moved me in ways theatre often tries to but rarely achieves"
