Rather than concentrating on the landmarks that you've probably seen a million times already, this interesting walk will peel back the layers of London's rich history to show you some of its oldest and most historic sites.

Starting by a Black Death burial pit in Charterhouse Square, you'll head for the area of Smithfield to hunt down a memorial to William Wallace, to see where Scotland's 'Braveheart' hero met his grisly end.

Then you'll head for the medieval church of St. Bartholomew-the-Great where Four Weddings And A Funeral was filmed, and spend some time reading the plaques at the 'Memorial to Heroic Self-Sacrifice' in Postman's Park.

After walking through some atmosheric back streets where no tourist ever goes, and standing in the shell of a bombed-out Blitz church, you'll see where the Great Fire of London finally petered out.
