The critically acclaimed musical Hamilton is a revolutionary tale about one of America's Founding Fathers -- set against a backdrop of modern rap, jazz, hip-hop and R&B.

America revolutionary Alexander Hamilton

The real-life Alexander Hamilton was a young immigrant who went from being a lowly orphan to George Washington's right hand man -- a journey which saw him change from a rebel into a fully-fledged war hero.

His colourful career saw him get tangled up in the country's first-ever sex scandal and watching his lifelong friend Aaron Burr turn into his bitterest foe.

The show prides itself in its historical accuracy, often using lines from his personal letters and documents in the songs' lyrics.

Other historical characters that feature in the story include American presidents Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, plus John Laurens, Peggy and Angelica Schuyler, Hercules Mulligan, Gilbert du Motier and Marquis de Lafayette.

Tony Award-winning soundtrack

The story is both sung and rapped, blending music from the worlds of Broadway, blues, hip-hop and jazz in a genre-defying fusion of music styles, wordplay and historical references.

During its phenonimally successful run it's picked up a Grammy, seven Olivier Awards, and a record-setting 16 Tony Award nominations.

What the theatre critics say...

The Times: ★★★★★ "For more than 200 years, someone else has mostly told their story. No longer. They're telling it loud and proud, with non-stop rap, hip-hop, R&B, bolstered with ballet, jazz dance and cartwheels"
