Tate Britain will be putting on a major new exhibition that promises to be the most extensive retrospective of work by the surrealist photographer Lee Miller ever staged in the UK.
Miller started her career on the other side of the lens, as one of the most sought-after models of the late 1920s. Determined to forge her own path as a photographer, she commented, "It was a matter of getting out on a damn limb and sawing it off behind you."
Her fearless spirit led her down paths including French surrealism, fashion and war photography, and she quickly became a leading figure in the avant-garde scene in London, Paris, New York and Cairo.
The exhibition will feature around 250 vintage and modern prints from her extraordinary career - including some never previously displayed in the UK - and shed some light on the lesser-known parts of her catalogue, such as her remarkable images of the Egyptian landscape.
