The Old Vic will be putting on the world premiere of Olivier Award-winning Conor McPherson's brand-new play, which tells the story of a brother and sister who are doing just fine mucking along in their decaying farmhouse.

For many a family home is more than just a building. It's also a place of pilgrimage and a precious inheritance, and for Stephen and Billie their home is all they have.

But things take an unexpected turn for the worse when they're joined by a prodigal brother who's hell-bent on causing trouble, a sister-in-law in search of a miracle, and an ex-clergyman uncle with an unscrupulous plan.

Set in 1980s Ireland, The Brightening Air is an entrancing tale filled with humour and heart-wrenching scenes that explores the complex dynamics of family relationships.

Award winning Irish playwright, Conor McPherson

Conor McPherson's incredibly successful career has seen him pick up an Olivier Award and Critics' Circle Theatre Award for The Weir, the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for The Night Alive, and enjoy sell-out runs with Shining City and Girl From The North Country.
