Listen to some of Felix Mendelssohn's greatest works in the beautiful candlelit setting of St. Mary-le-Strand, performed by the renowned concert pianist Martin Cousin.
The 18th-century church stands opposite Somerset House and is known as the 'Jewel in the Strand'. It was once surrounded by traffic but the area has recently been pedestrianised and turned into a peaceful sanctuary of gardens, trees and pavement cafes.
Pianist Martin Cousin
Hailed as one of the most exceptional pianists of his generation, Martin Cousin has performed as a soloist alongside the Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Halle and BBC Concert Orchestra. He has also recorded for the movies and played everywhere from Tokyo to Prague, Zimbabwe and Barbados.
Tonight's programme will include: Fantasy in F# minor, Song Without Words (Andante con moto in E, Molto allegro e vivace 'Hunting Song', Andante espressivo in Eb, Allegro di molto in Bb minor, Allegretto grazioso in A 'Spring Song', and Presto in C), Sonata in Bb and Andante and Rondo Capriccioso.
