The Cabinet Minister at Menier Chocolate Factory

This event has already passed

Adapted by, and starring the Olivier Award-winning Nancy Carroll, Arthur Wing Pinero's farcical comedy The Cabinet Minister is back at the Menier Chocolate Factory for a strictly-limited eight week run.

It tells the story of Cabinet Minister Sir Julian Twombley, who starts spending well beyond his means to maintain his position in the upper echelons of society.

Sir Julian and his wife Lady Katherine are also on the lookout for a good marriage match for their daughter, and turn to the Dowager Countess of Drumdurris to introduce them to a Scottish gent in Drumdurris Castle.

But the debts are piling up and Sir Julian is struggling to pay back his creditors, opening himself up to blackmail. The newspapers have got hold of the story and are sniffing around for clues. With his reputation hanging in the balance, will he be able to save face and restore his sanity?

First performed over 130 years ago, the play seems just as relevant as ever.
