In one of the acting coups of the season, Hollywood star Sigourney Weaver will be making her West End debut in Shakespeare's tumultuous comedy The Tempest.
She'll be taking on the role of Prospero, the banished Duke of Milan who has been marooned on a desert island for twelve years with his daughter Miranda, his servant Caliban, and an monstrous air spirit called Ariel, after being usurped by his brother Antonio and the King of Naples.
When he discovers that Antonio's ship is passing nearby he conjures up a voilent storm to strand the shipwrecked crew on the beach. But when his daughter falls in love with one of the sailors Prospero must decide which is greater... his thirst for revenge, or his need to forgive his enemy to make amends with his daughter.
The play is a tale of love, power, betrayal and forgiveness, and is believed to be one of the last plays that Shakespeare wrote alone.
