Anton Chekhov's tale of love and loneliness is an exploration of power, vanity and the sacrifices that have to be made in the pursuit of art.
It follows a celebrated actress whose larger-than-life personality hides her worries about the changing times, her playwright son who longs to step out of his successful mum's shadow, and an aspiring young actress who's desperate for fame.
As the group arrive at their family's country house for the weekend their conflicting hopes and desires are quickly dashed, their hearts are broken, and their dreams are left in tatters... and the only option left is to turn on each other.

Cate Blanchett will be making her return to the stage as the actress Arkadina, while Tom Burke takes on the role of her lover Trigorin. Emma Corrin (Princess Diana in TV's The Crown) will play the part of the younger actress Nina.
