The Churchill War Rooms was an underground command centre beneath the Treasury, under 12 feet of concrete and steel, where some of the biggest decisions of the Second World War were made.

The complex remained in operation until the surrender of Japan in August 1945, and many of its most famous rooms were preserved exactly as they were on that day, including the Map Room, War Cabinet Room, Chief of Staff's Conference Room and Winston Churchill's bedroom.
Upon arrival you will receive an introductory talk that will share some of its amazing history, and reveal how its people - from the cooks and support staff right up to the generals and Churchill himself - lived and worked in the busy underground tunnels.

Luxury afternoon tea in the Harmsworth Room
Churchill always insisted that he preferred plain food (apart from his champagne and cigars, of course!) but his idea of 'plain' was different from ours. His diet was rich, and his consumption was prolific. Happily, this luxury afternoon tea promises to be anything but plain.
The meal will take place in the atmospheric Harmsworth Room (Plant Room 7) - a dining room of unrivalled ambience and character that once contained all the equipment for regulating the airflow through the tunnels.

The specially curated menu will take you on a culinary journey through Churchill's life, with a decadent selection of sandwiches, pastries, drinks and more.
Following the tea you will have time to explore the rest of the War Rooms. You will also be able to visit the Churchill Museum inside, which explores his remarkable life and legacy.
