The London Coliseum is putting on a production of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro - a whirlwind comedy of betrothal, betrayal and scandalously bad behaviour.

Figaro loves Susanna and the Countess loves the Count... but the Count loves the chase! Mozart's chaotic opera follows Figaro's attempts to shield his wife-to-be from the lusty looks of the cheating Count Almaviva before he can get her safely down the aisle.

When the teenage Cherubino gets involved and the household starts to take sides, Figaro's machinations take on ever-more confusing twists and turns, and the opera descends into a comic procession of madcap schemes full of double-crosses, deceptions and disguises.

One of the greatest operas ever written

Considered by many as the greatest opera ever written, The Marriage of Figaro shows Mozart at the absolute height of his powers.

Starting with its famous overture, the score continues with arias and ensemble pieces like Voi che sapete and Non piu andrai that perfectly capture the comedy, rifts and reconciliation between Figaro and Susannah.

What the theatre critics say...

Evening Standard: ★★★★ "As ingenious as it is engrossing"; The Telegraph: ★★★★ "Slick, cool and a lot of fun"; The Times: ★★★★ "The escapist tonic you need"
