The State Ballet of Georgia will be performing a full-length production of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake at the London Coliseum, with music by the English National Opera Orchestra.
The State Ballet of Georgia are currently riding high under the artistic direction of Nina Ananiashvili - one of the all-time great ballerinas at the Bolshoi Ballet. This will be the first time in their 175-year history that they're coming to London with Swan Lake.
Tchaikovsky's classic romantic ballet
It tells the story of Prince Siegfried's love for the Swan Queen after chancing upon a flock of swans while out hunting. When one of the swans turns into a beautiful woman and he is immediately enraptured, only to discover that Odette is under a spell that only allows her to take human form at night.
The couple must then do battle with the evil sorcerer Rothbart, who tricks the Prince into declaring his love for a completely different woman, dooming Odette to remain a swan forever.
With magnificent costumes, sumptuous sets and a company of 70 dancers, this production transports the audience between beautiful ballroom scenes and a moonlit forest by the lake, conjuring up awe and wonder amongst devout ballet fans and newcomers alike.
