Cigarettes After Sex are back on the road to support their new album X’s.
As proponents of ambient pop, their usual ethereal - almost dream-like - music has become a record full of slow-burn pop songs. Whereas previous albums have always drawn upon multiple relationships, this one focuses solely on a long-term relationship that lasted four years.
"The record is brutal," admits Greg Gonzalez. "I really have to write about it, sing about it, and then I can start to learn from it... I don't have that Eternal Sunshine-thing of wanting to forget."
The band have always loved those musical motifs from the 50s and 60s, but now they're drawn to the 70s and 80s, resulting in a piece "akin to disco ball-refracted tears on the dance floor".
